Imagine bringing the beauty of nature indoors, transforming your living space into a tranquil oasis. With the growing popularity of biophilic design, incorporating elements of nature into our homes has become a trend that goes beyond traditional houseplants. One captivating way to embrace this trend is by creating your own DIY moss wall art. In this guide, we'll take you through the steps to craft a stunning moss wall that not only adds a touch of greenery but also brings a sense of calm and connection to the outdoors. Let's explore the enchanting realm of DIY Moss Wall Art and unlock the secrets to cultivating your own indoor oasis.

Materials Needed:

  1. Preserved Moss - various types and colors for texture and visual interest
  2. Picture Frame (you can upcycle an old one) or use a wooden/cork board
  3. Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  4. Mossy Mat Peel & Stick (optional)
  5. Black Lichen
  6. Scissors
  7. Picture hanging hardware (if necessary)
  8. Marker (if necessary)

Step 1: Choose your preserved moss. Start by selecting different types and colors of preserved moss to create a visually appealing and dynamic moss wall. You can choose from preserved sheet moss, mood moss, or reindeer moss, depending on your preference. The variety will add depth and interest to your art piece.

Step 2: Prepare the surface of the picture frame/board, make sure it is clean and dry before starting. If you need to cover the picture on the frame you can use our Mossy Mat Peel & Stick as an added layer of moss (optional). The peel-and-stick functionality ensures a hassle-free application.

Step 3: Arrange and Glue. Experiment with different arrangements of the moss on the board until you find a design you love. You can use the marker to draw the design (optional).  Use a hot glue gun to secure the moss in place. Take your time during this step, as the arrangement will determine the final look of your moss wall art.

Step 4: Add texture with Black Lichen to enhance the overall texture of your moss wall art. Cut the Black Lichen into smaller pieces (optional) and glue it on top of the moss to strategically create layers and depth.

Step 5: Secure Loose Ends. Ensure that all moss pieces are securely glued to the picture frame/board. Pay special attention to any loose edges or corners, reinforcing them with additional glue if needed.

Step 6: Hang your Moss Wall Art.

Conclusion: Creating your own moss wall art is a rewarding and environmentally friendly way to bring nature into your home. Not only does it serve as a unique and eye-catching decor piece, but it also promotes a sense of well-being and connection to the outdoors. Get creative with different moss varieties and arrangements, and enjoy the calming presence of your DIY moss wall art in any room of your home.

The popularity of moss wall art has surged in recent times due to several factors that align with contemporary design trends and a growing appreciation for nature-inspired aesthetics. Here are some reasons why moss wall art has become a sought-after decor choice:

1. Biophilic Design Trend: Moss wall art aligns seamlessly with the biophilic design trend, which emphasizes the integration of natural elements into interior spaces. As people seek to create environments that mimic the outdoors, moss walls offer a visually striking and sustainable way to bring nature indoors.

2. Low Maintenance: Moss is a low-maintenance plant that requires no soil and minimal watering. This appeals to individuals who desire greenery in their homes but may not have the time or expertise to care for traditional houseplants. Moss walls provide a hassle-free alternative, thriving in environments with low light and humidity.

3. Aesthetic Appeal: The intricate textures and vibrant hues of various moss varieties contribute to the aesthetic appeal of moss wall art. Homeowners and designers appreciate the versatility of moss, allowing for the creation of visually captivating and customized designs that suit diverse tastes and decor styles.

4. Wellness and Stress Reduction: Biophilic elements, including moss walls, have been associated with various health benefits. The presence of greenery indoors is believed to reduce stress, boost mood, and enhance overall well-being. Moss walls, with their soothing green tones, contribute to creating a calm and inviting atmosphere.

5. Environmental Sustainability: As eco-conscious living gains momentum, individuals are turning to sustainable decor options. Moss wall art is often crafted using preserved moss, which requires no ongoing maintenance and is a sustainable alternative to live plants. This aligns with the growing desire to make environmentally responsible choices in home design.

6. Customization and Personalization: DIY moss wall art allows for a high level of customization, enabling individuals to express their creativity and design preferences. The ability to experiment with different moss types, arrangements, and sizes adds a personal touch to the decor, making each moss wall a unique piece of art.

7. Space-Saving Solution: Moss walls are an excellent solution for those who want to incorporate greenery into smaller living spaces or areas with limited natural light. As they don't require soil or large pots, moss walls offer a space-efficient alternative to traditional potted plants.
